Spot the dragon-headed floats winding their way through the historical port town in October! The entire town of Ushimado gets into a festive mood on the day of the Ushimado Autumn Festival, held at Ushimado Shrine, the Sochinju (the shrine that appeases and protects everything) of the Ushimado area.

The procession visits 21 designated resting spots (otabi-sho) throughout the town. The mikoshi (divine portable shrine) and five danjiri (festival float wooden carts)—featuring dragon heads and boat shapes—are carried vigorously around the town, while their arrival is celebrated with traditional shagiri music performances, accompanied by spirited taiko drumming.
